Our family is trying to raise money to help with our cross country journey to get our niece out of foster care. We were denied by South Carolina the option to adopt our niece because of reasons that the state of California didn't think would be an issue. We were out of our home due to damage from Hurricane Dorian and our temporary trailer was considered too small for another child. My husband had a marijuana charge out of San Francisco CA on his juvenile record and because 9 states Puerto Rico and Guam don't allow adoption if you have been convicted of a crime of that nature EVER until the record is sealed we cannot adopt. Because of the timeline we have to adopt we are left with one option. Move to California and adopt our baby. We need help with moving costs and need to find a home that will allow our dogs. The adoption process starts in about 2 months but we need to have the baby placed with us prior to then and they hope for the process to finish within a year. We wouldn't ask for help if we had time to plan but this is the only opportunity to complete our family and we plan to do whatever it takes.
If anyone chooses to comment on here that knows our niece we request you not use her name. She will remain anonymous on social media of all forms until after adoption is finalized. This is not just a rule but also for the safety of the baby.
