Amani, a 40-year-old mother of six, has been waging a courageous battle against cancer, yet the fight has come at a terrible cost. Over the past year and a half, she’s been away from her children while undergoing treatment in Egypt, and the separation is tearing the family apart.
Back in Gaza, Amani’s six children—Tasnim (14), Jana (12), Abdulrahman (10), Zainuddin (6), Youssef (4), and little Wateen (2) are surviving under brutal conditions. Their home was destroyed, and they now live in a single, flimsy tent. Cooking gas is unavailable, so every day they go without hot meals or heat. Instead, the family burns whatever scraps of wood they can find, but firewood is scarce and costly.
Their father struggles to cover basic needs, including flour, clean water, and baby formula. Let alone the high costs of transporting Amani back and forth, or sending her essential medicines and medical reports. On top of that, winter nights bring freezing temperatures, and without blankets or heating, the children shiver through the cold.
