Saving Afghan Refugees
Donation protected
Daily, there are heated debates on social media for and against vaccines, for and against a woman’s right to choose an abortion, for and against wearing masks in public, all while refugees in Afghanistan are simply trying to stay alive. Individuals who risked their lives and the lives of their families by serving as interpreters and guides for the US Armed Services are being abandoned by the government they served. Footage of the tragedy happening as the Taliban regains control is sickening and outrageous. Reports of the difficulties facing those trying to flee make us feel helpless.
What can we do to make a difference?
Many of you may not know that there was a recent change that allows for Afghani residents to immigrate to the US. However, there are still many obstacles that can seem insurmountable to the average citizen of Afghanistan attempting to flee the violence. Imagine being displaced from your home and hiding with your children with little or no food or money. What stands between you and safety is a $575 government filing fee PER PERSON and a US Sponsor.
This is where you can help.
Bremer Law & Associates is primarily an Immigration Law Firm in Providence, RI. Attorney Hans Bremer has a history of serving immigrant populations across the US. He has received a special commendation from Mayor Gorge Elorza and the Guatemalan Government for his pro-bono work and efforts to help the local Guatemalan community. He is also the recipient of the Roger Williams School of Law Pro-Bono Collaborative Award for Outstanding Service. He has dedicated over 10% of his law firm to Pro-Bono legal aid. He provides significantly discounted rates to non-profit organizations. Attorney Hans Bremer is sickened by what is happening in Afghanistan and is dedicated to doing all he can to help. He is asking for donations to help cover the individual $575 government fees required to apply to come to the US for Afghani citizens. In addition, he is committed to providing his personal services to assist Afghani refugees obtain legal status once here at no cost.
However, Bremer Law & Associates is a for-profit business. While Attorney Bremer’s personal fees are waived, he has a responsibility to his dedicated staff who are working tirelessly to help all their clients. In addition to the $575 paid to the government, he is asking for $500 to cover salaries for the employees working on these cases.
Why donate to a business as opposed to a non-profit? What many don’t know is when you donate to a non-profit, much of your donation goes to pay salaries and only a small percentage benefits the individuals directly. As a for-profit law firm, Bremer Law & Associates is equipped with a large staff that are professional and knowledgeable and capable of getting a job done quickly and without the extra bureaucracy that many nonprofits face. Bremer Law promises transparency about where your donation is going and is dedicated to providing superior services at a nominal cost.
This monetary donation is only part of the process, however. Each individual who enters the US is thoroughly vetted by the US Government and once they pass this process they still need a US Citizen to sponsor them.
