I am part of the Grassroots and I wanted to take action to help the Black community of Mason TN. The Tennessee Comptroller is moving forward with plans to take over the city of Mason’s financial operations after years of reported mismanagement of funds totaling over $600K. They are moving forward with a hostile takeover, by forcing the city of Mason to give up their charter that they owned for well over 120 years . Giving up that charter would give all the power to the State. The abuse of public funds occurred from a previous all white administration, who were relieved of their duties due to fraud and embezzlement. No corrective action was brought upon the previous all white administration ,nor has anyone from that administration been held accountable for paying the stolen funds back. The responsibility to pay back the funds was placed on the current Black administration. Since the current Black Administration has been in place, they have worked diligently to repay the debt they did not create. They were left with no other choice but to use the waste water funds to pay down the balance of the debt
On 4/4/22, the NAACP filed a lawsuit on behalf of Mason and the balance owed from the previous administration was not forgiven. A settlement agreement was reached on 5/4/22, and Mason is still responsible for paying off the debt from the previous administration. The comptroller is still in charge of the towns finances until the balance listed above is cleared.
The comptroller wants to sabatage the city of Mason and not allow them to continue to be economically independent. Funds raised will help Mason keep their independence and repay the debt that was placed on this town from the previous admin’s .This funds will assist with infrastructure, waste water reproach, uniforms for the police officers, and all other resources that will directly benefit the city of Mason and give the town an economic boost. Donations to the town must be in the form of a check, and since go fund me does not provide checks, I will transfer the funds into my personal account, and then the funds will be sent to the town of Mason in the form of a Cashiers check.
