A little bit of context

The Cypriot Club in Brunswick East applied to Council initially for a ten storey development at 495-511 Lygon Street, then revised to seven storeys. At the Planning and Related Matters meeting, the local community fought back, and Council approved a planning application for five storeys. The developer is appealing this at VCAT.

The best thing we can do is hire professional representation at VCAT. We have obtained a quote for $8,800 for a professional planner to represent us. Anything over that amount we can use to obtain additional professional advice such as traffic surveys, to help strengthen our case.

The best time is now to fight back at this inappropriate development, so that North Lygon St does not suffer the same fate as South Lygon St – where one oversized development set the benchbark for buildings that followed.
