Save Children of Becky's Home-Ghana

Donation protected
Hello!

Thanks for visiting! My name is Kimberley  and I created a GoFundMe page in an effort to raise funds for a wonderful, loving but vulnerable group of children in Senya Beraku, Ghana.

After spending six weeks volunteering  in an orphanage home in a remote part of Senya Beraku, Ghana (Feb. 2014 & March 2014) ... I quickly learned how every monetary donation can make a HUGE difference.

Who is this helping? Husband and wife Seth and Vivian Asiedu run "Becky's Home Orphange" with 42 children ranging from toddlers to teens.  Both Seth and Vivian earn a low teacher's salary and put all of their earnings towards the needs of the children. They also run a school for the orphans and children in the surrounding community. The children of the orphanage attend class with teachers who receive a very low salary. They are able to continue the efforts of the school by collecting small school fees from parents around the community and volunteers (like myself) who volunteer teach.

What is the cause? Since 2012 The Asiedus have been renting rooms in a building to provide shelter & food for the orphans.  Recently, the landlord has declared that the children are causing "over-crowding" in the buildling  and is forcing The Asiedus and the 42 children to move out by January 2015.

What's next? Seth and Vivian were left with few options. Luckily, my fellow volunteers were able to raise funds to work with a construction group to build Becky's Home Orphanage a home of their own. This is still in progress.

The Asiedus are still in dire need of other resources for a succesful transition.

This GoFundMe page is aimed to help with necessary and pressing needs associated with relocating this orphanage and 42 children.

Background: I live and work in the city of Philadelphia and at the start of 2014, I made a decision that would change my life forever. I decided to take an unpaid leave of absence from my job to spend six weeks in Ghana, living and volunteering on an orphange home.

It was not an easy journey to get there. I moved out of my apartment, sold various items that I owned and saved every penny I could to make this happen. It was the best investment of my life.

I spent six weeks living with 42 children that could pack everything they own into one small handbag. I learned from husband and wife, Seth and Vivian Asiedu what it means to be selfless, loving and compassionate.

Seth and Vivian live in an (economically) poorer area of Ghana where resources are limited and malnutrition is common. Before Vivian's mother passed, she gave what money she had left to Vivian and Seth to make their dream happen--start an orphange home for the needy and vulnerable children in Senya Beraku (hence the name "Becky's Home"... in honor of Vivian's mother).

Now with 42 orphans, Seth and Vivian rent out rooms for the children to sleep, operate a day care for the younger children and operate a school near the orphanage for the orphans and children in the area.

My time in Ghana was not only spent bonding with the Asiedus and children but also with other volunteers around the world. We live in the U.K, Americas and Austraila but we all have one thing in common--we left our hearts in Ghana.

So I'm hoping to do my part to raise funds to help  Becky's Home Orphanage and Day Care.

Thank you for taking the time to read about Becky's Home and my journey... Any donation amount is appreciated...thank you for thinking of Becky's Home!!!

Sincerely,

Kimberley
