Hi - We're Emily, Maria, and Katelyn.

This GoFundMe is created in an effort to save a beloved and necessary space in Forest Hills, NY from what we believe to be an unjust eviction due to incorrect and unfair rental charges.

Yant Art Space opened up their community location in Forest Hills a year and a half ago. Not to be dramatic, but Yant isn't just another business and this isn't just a space - it's a sanctuary of sorts. This is the epitome of what we call a third space. This is a place where people gather and connection is encouraged.

Kit, the owner and visionary, has called Forest Hills home since 1996. After decades of watching the neighborhood evolve, she finally had the chance to give back in a deeply meaningful way. She poured her love, time, and soul into creating Yant Art Space: a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for creativity and community.

Kit would never ask for help herself – she’s always the one giving, supporting, encouraging. That’s why we’re doing it for her.

Through Yant Art Space, Kit offers free and low-cost events like craft markets, open mics, board game nights, and art pop-ups. She opens her doors to local advocacy groups and provides an affordable workspace and event rental to fellow neighbors and creatives.

We are doing this for Kit, who is unlike any person we have ever met, but we are also doing it for ourselves. We have felt the impact in what this space has created first hand. We have found community when we needed it most. We have developed personal and professional relationships and felt excited for possibilities in the future, all with the encouragement of Kit.

Now, due to incorrect and unfair rental charges Yant faces eviction – and must raise $20,000 urgently to remain open. Kit is exhausting every possible avenue, but time is running out. Right now, financial help is the only thing that can make a difference.

This may seem like a local issue – but it’s part of a much larger crisis across New York City, where powerful landlords are pushing out the small, vibrant, community-rooted spaces that make this city feel like home.
