UPDATE 25th November 2025
A HUGE thank you to everyone that has donated to our campaign to try and save the cherished Greenbelt Land known as Butterfly Bank from being permanently destroyed as a result of an opportunistic development by Jones Homes.
We reached our original target of £15,000 which is truly amazing.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending which way you look at it, many statutory bodies such as the Environment Agency, CEC Lead Flood Authority, United Utilities, Manchester Airport and the Housing Officer have REJECTED the proposed plans. Its unclear therefore how this is going to play out, however we have to assume that Jones Homes will have to re-design and re-submit their plans.
We have used the funds raised to date, primarily to instruct professional consultants to critique the plans as they stand at present, but of course, when they re-submit, we will need to undergo that exercise once again.
Therefore, we have set a new target of £25,000.
If you are in a position to do so, we urge you to make a donation (or additional donation) to provide us with a war chest to take this fight the distance.
Once its gone - its gone forever...
Thank you
The Protect Butterfly Bank Team
Original Story
The Butterfly Bank area is a cherished green space in Wilmslow, home to diverse wildlife, beautiful wildflowers, and a peaceful retreat for the community. However, this vital habitat is under threat from an adjacent 120-house development by Jones Homes in Cheshire East. Access to the proposed site would be from the cul-de-sac at the end of Welton Drive.
Recent Government changes mean the Local Plan is no longer protecting the Greenbelt land, and developers are taking advantage of this loophole.
We are a group of local residents, nature lovers, and conservationists determined to protect this productive farmland from destruction.
Butterfly Bank is not just a greenbelt field —it is a sanctuary for butterflies, birds, and other wildlife, and an irreplaceable part of our community’s natural heritage.
We need your support to fund legal advice, planning assessments, and a campaign to challenge this development. Every donation, no matter how small, helps us fight to keep Butterfly Bank safe for future generations.
Join us in standing up for nature and preserving this vital green space!
Allocation of funds will be overseen by the four team members to ensure complete transparency.
