Save Wahoo's Fish Taco Burleigh

I've started this fundraiser as a last resort on behalf of my partner's family, to save not only their restaurant but an establishment that has been shaping the town's image since 2002 & is currently one of the last local businesses representing the communities core heritage. I am going to pass you on to my partner Mistry, the daughter of the family. (This text has been copied & pasted from her Instagram post as none of the family know I am making this Go Fund Me page)

"I write this with an extremely heavy, broken heart but sadly, my family’s restaurant has officially fallen victim to the greedy humans of our world. For those that do not know, my parents moved my brother and I across the world, opened a restaurant and have worked 7 days a week every week for the last 20 years. They put their absolute heart and soul into their business, their customers and their family they made through Wahoo’s. Sadly, during the course of this pandemic, it evidently took a larger hit on their income (as most people). My parents continued to work every day, made sure their employees kept their jobs and insured their customers still had ridiculously cheap, good food. They even offered stupidly discounted prices during the peak of COVID and the staff, including myself personally delivered their customers food. Long story short but the only help small businesses like Wahoo’s were able to easily access was rent relief by their landlords. What about governmental help you ask? The only governmental help my parents received was a hefty fine for having a few too many people in their restaurant Anyway, this rent relief included reduced rent for 3 months. Mind you, this “relief” wasn’t a breath of fresh air as half of this still had to be paid back (which it has been slowly). Last June, Wahoos’ lease was up for renewal (which they also decided to increase… pretty fucked right but that’s life at the minute). My parents, of course not wanting to let go of their business, resigned the agreement. However, their landlord then decided to not sign it. Fast forward…

…8 months later (this Monday to be exact and instead of their landlord worrying about what they can do to help the flood victims like the rest of us - they were worried about money ). Their lease is basically being held hostage and if they do not pay what they owe by a specific day, they are breached. Allegedly, in my personal opinion, it rings black mailing to pay the money back right now, which we simply do not have. This is just inhumane and unjustifiable. The world has turned sick in so many ways and I am sick of seeing my parents and other small businesses pour their blood, sweat and tears into something that is, in fact, killing them. Wahoo’s was supposed to turn 20 this year and we were all supposed to celebrate but instead I ask, if you’re around the area of Burleigh this week - come give my parents a hug, buy a feed or simply have a chat to them. Show my beautiful parents they have support just like they have supported Burleigh for the last 20 years. I have hope their landlord will snap out of it and show some empathy for their situation or we pull the money out of our asses, but for now, here’s a big fuck you to the landlord of 2/1726 Gold Coast Highway, Burleigh Heads, 4220, QLD. ❤️"
