Save this goofy little kei car (and win it)

I've found my calling. I need to save this silly little car.

Hi, i'm Chris. If you're here you've probably found the page through instagram but if not let me introduce myself.

I'm a petrolhead based up in Scotland with a love for weird and wonderful stuff. I've owned a variety of things over the years but recently kei cars have stolen my heart. Kei cars are a very specific class of tiny car from Japan that started production after WW2 to help boost the economy but these days they're ideal for city life in Japan.

To be classed as a kei car their overall dimensions need to be no longer than 3.4 meters (11.2 ft), no wider than 1.48 meters (4.9 ft), and no taller than 2.0 meters (6.6 ft). They're also bound by a gentlemans agreement to produce no more than 63hp (47kW).

The benefits of meeting these specifications mean lower insurance and tax but also you can buy one in Tokyo without having to prove you own a parking space.

This whole class of cars has spawned some absolutely weird contraptions ranging from 9000+rpm sports cars to mini vans and pickup trucks, in fact I imported a truck myself last year and stuck a bike engine in it for no reason other than I thought it would be fun. And it is.

So this brings me to the GoFundMe. Why am I asking for your help?

On a recent trip to a breakers yard for parts I found this adorable little 1998 Mitsubishi Minica Toppo. It's been sat in the corner of the yard for a few years now with the last MOT expiring in 2019 and it makes me sad to see it this way. I adore how goofy it looks and I want to bring it back to life for someone to enjoy but to do that i'm going to need some help.

The car hasn't been scrapped, it's just SORN. It needs a lot of work but nothing I can't handle myself and I have a price in mind to buy the car. The aim of the GoFundMe at the bare minimum is to get the car back on the road, but any excess money raised will go towards deeper maintenance or replacing/upgrading any areas that are lacking.

This would be a community project with all finances published so you all see where the money is going and with the help of some contacts in the industry i'm hoping to pull some favours to make this goofy little car happy again. If excess funds are raised they will all go into the car and I plan to poll people on instagram to determine where money is spent and how much. This can all be followed at www.instagram.com/p3lwo

The main goal here is to get this car back on the road.

Surplus funds will go into restoring and/or modifying the car to improve it.

The end goal is to have a road legal car that I will give away for free once it's in a satisfactory condition in a campaign run through social media. This car isn't for me, it's for the people that help me save it. Let's do something cool.
