Save the Woodstock Farmers Market!
Dear neighbors and friends of the Woodstock Farmers Market –
2020 marks the 10th season for the Woodstock Farmers Market – we are as shocked as all of you at what a challenge this year promises to be. This unprecedented moment in history has hit right as we are full swing in our annual fundraising drive. While the bulk of our operations are paid for by the vendors themselves through their stall fees, we annually rely on sponsors, donations and grants to close the gap on our overhead expenses and payroll. In these uncertain times, with our businesses hit hard, we must have your help to continue as a market this summer. The market will look different this year, but the goal is still the same: connecting our community to local, healthy food.
As a designated essential service, we plan to open the Woodstock Farmers Market as regularly scheduled, on Sunday, June 7th. Things are changing day to day, hour to hour, but we are committed to keeping this lifeline open for our vendors, our community, and especially our SNAP shoppers who rely on our matching program to put fresh, healthy food on their family table.
Our market is a very important source of revenue for our family farmers and small businesses. We are still figuring out exactly what the Woodstock Farmers Market will look like this summer and how it will operate but right now we know that due to current recommendations and requirements, we will have to downsize the number of vendors to those who qualify as an essential service and to ensure adequate spacing between stalls for safe interactions. This also impacts how much revenue we are able to bring in to cover our expenses.
