I am raising money to save our local scout hut. The local council have decided to evict the 4th Oxford Scout Group from the hut they built almost 50 years ago, at short notice and for no good reason. The building will lie empty without the scouts, and the group will need to build another HQ several miles away. Volunteers will have to move masses of kit and store it at other groups across the county, risking their health in the middle of a global pandemic.
The local council's threat to evict the scout group is an attempt to force the scouts to sign away their legal rights over their hut. Documents show the local council believes that the scouts will not be able to challenge them in court, because they are a small charity. The local council thinks it can act with impugnity.
I'm not prepared to accept this, so I have brought a judicial review for a court order to restrain the local council.
The scout group is large and thriving and provides much needed activities for over 100 young people in the area. The scout group is needed by young people now more than ever.
I will use the funds I raise for the legal costs to protect the 4th Oxford Scout Group. I will use the funds for this judicial review and any other legal action required. The funds will go to pay legal bills and any costs award.
All of the money left over will be given by me to local scouting, in particular the 4th Oxford Scout Group, a registered charity No. 267799.
