Folks, The Salvation Army Northeast KY is in trouble. Due to funding cuts and expiration of Covid funds, the shelter is faced with closing. I don’t ask for donations often but Cesiah and I will be directing our efforts to help save this critical facility in our city. You can help by donating at http://ashlandsaveourshelter.org or by simply sharing posts about the shelter.
Last year, I met a family staying at the shelter in the family area. They had children who are Elo’s age and the Father was doing his best to get back to working so he could find a place for them to live. As emotional as that was to see, the shelter was so important for them during that time.
Regardless of your opinion on our unhoused population, most of us agree that they must have a place to go. I understand there are concerns about the shelter but no facility like this is perfect and it is incredibly difficult to operate. I have spoken to Major Swain at the shelter and the board is made up of people whom I trust. I would not ask you to help if I wasn’t confident in their management.
I know many folks are struggling right now so thank you so much for anything you can do. We cannot lose this shelter.
