Saving the aesthetics of the Mason Terrace-to-Beacon Street passageway.
Hi, Neighbors. If you have missed being able to take the shortcut between 97 and 99 Mason Terrace to Beacon Street and the Brandon Hall T-stop, we could use any support you can give to help restore the masonry.
Recently the Town of Brookline ordered us to close the passageway and called for immediate action to address the danger of potential collapse; the listed and abutting property owners are investing over $100,000 to restore the retaining wall, sidewalk, balustrade, and stairway. The first stage of work is already underway. Since this passageway is enjoyed by many in the neighborhood, we thought we’d ask if there are neighbors who would be able and willing to help cover the cost difference of $4,500 between nominally meeting the required safety standards and preserving the original turn-of-the-century aesthetics of the unique hardscape.
The deadline for this project is September 15. Thank you for any consideration you are able to offer to this improvement for our neighborhood!
