Restore Parable of the Sower-1880 stained glass

Donation protected
I’m so happy to announce that we have met our goal and will be able to cover the costs of the window being removed, moved, and installed at the train station! Thank you all so much for helping us achieve this amazing undertaking I am currently in the process of finding a restorative artist to replace the broken panes, I hope you will join us on our restorative journey
Hello from Destination Bellows Falls! We have been working diligently to try to rescue an historic work of art installed in the church at 66 Atkinson Street in 1880. This initiative has been made possible by detailed planning on the part of Destination Bellows Falls members along with individuals from the Historical Society, the Twelve Tribes Community at Basin Farm, and others.

When the building was renovated following its original construction in 1835, the beautiful stained glass windows were included in the operation. It was further renovated in 1900, and enlarged in 1911. The name of the work is 'The Parable of the Sower.'

My name is Alisa Miller, and I am initiating this fundraiser for interested community members in our village. I want to begin by stating that any donations given, should the goal not be reached, will be refunded. (One can always choose to push it to another initiative.)

Destination Bellows Falls and Beyond, Inc has a lease in the train station and is a Vermont incorporated non-profit. All donors will be sent a “thank you for your tax deductible donation” letter from the 501(c)3 fiscal sponsor SVG.

The Methodist Church at 66 Atkinson Street in Bellows Falls is slated for demolition, and many skilled and diligent participants have been making plans to rescue, restore, and display the unique, historic stained glass window entitled, 'Parable of the Sower' before it comes down with the building.

We have an extremely limited time frame and although many are putting in a lot of time and effort in regard to this project, nothing can happen without basic funding for machinery operation and materials to move and display the window.

The window will be dispayed at the Bellows Falls Train Station, at 50 Depot St. It is planned that it will be removed from the church on Atkinson Street and moved to the station on November 10, 2021.

We are currently seeking $6000 to fund the preservation of the window; please know that this campaign will be ongoing as we will need a restorative artist to repair the damage caused by time.

I know there are many who have had memories made in this building; it was a Church when I was a child. It became a venue for Le Studio, Headstart and After School Programs, and the YMCA. Many over the years have expressed concern about the condition of the building and some have put a lot of time and effort into preserving it. It would mean a lot to many in our village if we can at least preserve this small piece of our history.
