Stand With Leamlara: A journey to Judicial Review

We are the Leamlara Preservation Group—a small rural community in East Cork now facing a David v Goliath battle, a small community of ordinary people v the deep pockets of private developers.

Our area will become an industrial zone - fencing will replace hedgerows; black panels will replace green fields; the noise of inverters will replace birdsong.

There are families in our community who are at risk of having their homes completely surrounded by a 450+ acre industrial-scale solar development.

Imagine waking up one morning and finding your home encircled by what is effectively an industrial complex.

No one would accept the approval of an industrial sized factory around their home without a fight—so why should this community?

Why We’re Going to Court

We have been granted leave for Judicial Review.

This is a big win for a small community It means the courts have agreed that our case has merit—that there are serious questions about how this decision was made.

In simple terms: they believe that questions we have raised around the process need to be examined.

But getting this far has come at a cost.

The Financial Reality

The money raised to date on this page has been used to fund legal and expert costs for our community. We have also received donations directly into our community bank account to assist with our costs in this fight.

The granting of leave to take a Judicial Review has cost our small community a further €27,000 to prove our case has merit and deserves to be heard.

That is our first cost - and we must pay it within 2 weeks.

The full Judicial Review is expected to cost €90,000+ in addition.

We are ordinary people. Families. Neighbours. Volunteers. A small and ordinary community.

This is a heavy burden to carry but as a community we have no choice.
