Save the Ladies' Literary Club of Grand Rapids

For more than a century, the Ladies' Literary Club has been a place where women gathered to read, learn, discuss ideas, support one another, and contribute to the cultural life of Grand Rapids. Founded in 1877, it is one of the oldest women's organizations in Michigan and has long served as a home for intellectual curiosity, civic engagement, and community connection. Today, we have an extraordinary opportunity to preserve this legacy and carry it forward for future generations. A small group of dedicated women is working to return the historic clubhouse to active community use through a new nonprofit organization. Our vision is to create a vibrant center for lifelong learning, book clubs, lectures, educational programming, arts and culture, community gatherings, and women's leadership initiatives. To secure this opportunity, we must raise funds to move forward with acquiring the building and provide essential operating support during the next phase of fundraising. These funds will help us host community events, donor tours, educational programs, and outreach efforts designed to build long-term support for the project. Once a purchase agreement is secured, we will launch a larger capital campaign to fully restore, preserve, and sustain the building as a community asset for generations to come. This is about more than saving a historic building. It is about preserving a place where ideas are shared, friendships are formed, books are discussed, women are empowered, and community is strengthened. Every contribution helps move us closer to ensuring that this remarkable institution remains a living part of Grand Rapids' future. If you believe that history matters, that community matters, and that spaces dedicated to learning and connection matter, we invite you to join us. Together, we can write the next chapter of the Ladies' Literary Club.
