Save the Historic Harrisville MI Train Depot

Your donations are needed to support the Alcona Historical Society/Harrisville Depot Committee to launch Phase 1 “Harrisville Depot Stabilization Program” now that the depot deed has been obtained and ownership has transferred to the Alcona Historical Society from Lake State Rail Way Company (Saginaw, MI). The Depot building structure needs immediate stabilization after being empty for multiple decades and experiencing unfortunate vandalism and exposure to the elements. Your donation fuels the first phase of the project, to set up utilities; install security; insurance costs; emergency facilities upgrades to exterior and interior.

This GoFundMe goal covers only a fraction of the costs required. Your donation is critical to indicate that our community is "invested" both financially and physically in the Depot's renovation and revitalization with grass-roots fundraising. The Depot Committee is hard at work soliciting grants. Your donation tells granting organizations that the depot project has a solid base of support within the region, and strengthens the depot's opportunity for grants and corporate investment needed to meet our overall goal.

Dubbed “The Forgotten Depot” over the decades, the Harrisville, Michigan historic cut stone building now stands empty in a small Northeastern Michigan town that was once bustling in the Victorian Era as a lumber resource and a Great Lake vacation destination. While not quite “forgotten,” the Depot is a hidden gem long neglected, in the once busy, now very quiet town of Harrisville, Michigan.

These funds are essential and will be used for the first initiatives to save this building, including turning on utilities, installing a security system, making critical building renovations and other stabilization projects which are needed before any further damage is incurred. The Phase 1 “Depot Stabilization Program” is a multi-year project to take place in 2023 and 2024.
