Save the Grand Beach Nature Preserve!

The Friends of Grand Beach Nature Preserve (FGBNP), are a group of residents dedicated to preserving a 42 acre parcel of globally rare coastal plain marsh located in the Village of Grand Beach, Michigan. The land has beautiful trails, abundant wildlife, and endangered plants unique to this rare coastal ecosystem. Less than 2,000 acres remain in the entire state of Michigan!
The Village of Grand Beach was extremely fortunate to receive a grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to purchase the property from the private landowner so that it can be preserved in its natural state in perpetuity. The grant will cover 75% of the total purchase price, and the Village must raise the other 25% of the price to meet the match and be able to accept the grant. The Village anticipates that they will need approximately $488,000.00 to meet the match. To Date, the Village has raised approximately $139,000.00 in private donations. While there is no set date for the transaction to be completed and the funds to be disbursed, we anticipate everything will be finalized sometime this fall, in just 4 short months.
The FGBNP are continuing their fundraising efforts through the local residents, and the entire southwest Michigan and Chicagoland areas in our efforts to meet the match. Any donations, in any amount, to help us meet our goal would be greatly appreciated! This land is the last piece of open land not currently under development in our village.
