Save the Gladstone!!
We're a group of Tallahasseans trying to save a 130-year-old house from the wrecking ball. This historic building has been a family's mansion, a rooming house, and during World War II, a residence for families of soldiers training in the area for Operation Overlord: D-Day.
It's currently owned by the State of Florida, which plans to demolish it because of concerns about the security of the Governor's Mansion, which sits about a block behind it. We are attempting to get the State to change its plans and renovate the building for some other use, or to sell the building and, if necessary, let it be moved to another site.
If we're successful in changing the State's plans, the funds raised by this drive will be used for renovating and/or moving the house.
If it's possible or necessary to raise funds to buy the house, we'll either raise the goal (significantly) or start a new GoFundMe drive and transfer the money raised here to that.
