Restore Clock Chambers Clock

Donation protected
The Space to Breathe Collective is a not for profit, community interest 'Yoga and Wellness' Space in Leicester city centre.

We have moved to new premises in St Martin's which was formerly occupied by The Bag Store which opened in 1895 as Brown Brothers Bag Stores Ltd. The clock was built in 1906. At first the clock was run by hydrochloric batteries, but in 1980 it was converted to electricity.

We have renovated the beautiful first floor studio space but the clock is in a poor state, the window is broken, the clock face is cracked and it no longer works. This building and clock is a Leicester landmark and we aim to restore the clock for all of the people of Leicester and around to use.

The Space to Breathe Collective makes no profit, we don't pay ourselves a wage. We provide the wellness practitioners (independent teachers and students) of Leicester and Leicestershire a physical space to enable the wellbeing of all who visit. As we come out of the pandemic, maintaining personal wellness will be increasingly important.

The new studio space opened in July. The appeal has raised £1,187 to date, and the freehold owner has offered another £1,000. With a small conservation area grant possible, we may almost have enough to do basic repair and get the clock working again. But to do a proper job and replace the cracked glass dial will cost a lot more, needing another £10,000. We are looking for generous donors from local business and civic organizations.

Please support this appeal. All money raised will go towards the clock renovation. Thanks
