Save The Carolina Employees

Donation protected
The Carolina is a staple of Asheville life. On 3/19/20, due to shutdowns caused by the COVID19 epidemic, Cinemark (the current owners of The Carolina), has laid off all employees, management included. In the blink of an eye 60+ employees are without income. Many of them were young, working their way through college, living paycheck to paycheck. The situation is made all the worse as most other business are closed or downsizing due to the same measures, making finding a new job nearly impossible.

Coronavirus may be able to shut down businesses and social events but it certainly hasn't canceled bills to be paid and rent owed. You've seen the faces of many of these workers for years, smiling to you, greeting you, laughing with you, talking movies with you. If you live in Asheville chances are you've been to the Carolina at least once. We always did our best to give you the movie going experience you deserved. Any and all donations are appreciated, no amount of help is too small. Please help us during this challenging time to move forward and get back on our feet.

The campaign goal is $65,000, which would allow a payout of $1,000 dollars per former employee. I know these numbers may sound dramatic but one thousand dollars is less than rent for most people. Still, it is a meaningful amount that would dramatically alleviate financial stress and desperation. If we are unable to hit our goal the total amount raised will instead be used as an emergency fund that any of our members can tap into if needed.
