Help save the historic Calhoun Farmers Elevator.

The Calhoun Farmers Elevator Preservation Project is working to save more than a building in Calhoun, Missouri. Standing beside Missouri’s Katy Trail, this old grain elevator has long been part of the life of the community. For generations, local farming families brought their grain here after long days in the fields. People worked here for years, families depended on it for their livelihoods, and business was often done with a handshake and trust. Even now, people can point to it and remember a parent, grandparent, or childhood connection tied to this place. What began as research into an old building quickly became something much deeper: an effort to preserve photographs, memories, names, and the stories of the people whose lives were woven into the elevator and into Calhoun itself.

Today, the historic Calhoun Farmers Elevator is at risk. This fundraiser was created so the Calhoun Farmers Elevator Preservation Project can continue the work of saving and preserving it for future generations. Funds raised will help take the necessary steps toward evaluating, stabilizing, and preserving the structure, pursuing grants and preservation opportunities, and exploring how this landmark might someday serve Calhoun and Katy Trail visitors. There is much work ahead, and the cost could be substantial, but every donation helps take another step. If the building cannot be fully saved, any remaining funds will go toward preservation and cleanup efforts in Calhoun.

The hope is not just to remember the elevator, but to keep it standing so future visitors and families can still look up and know what it means to this town. The organizers are also searching for photographs, grain tickets, receipts, newspaper clippings, and family stories connected to the elevator, because every board was raised by someone’s hands, and every load of grain represented someone’s work and livelihood. Please help save the heart of this community by donating or sharing this fundraiser. And if you have a memory or piece of history tied to the elevator, please help share that too. With enough support, the ending to this story can be one the whole community writes together: one donation, one share, one memory, and one generation at a time.
