It is with a sense of urgency that we are reaching out through GoFundMe in hopes that you will....
Help us keep the Afro-Cuban Rumba "30 Year Legacy" alive and well at La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley, California.
For over three decades, this historic rumba at La Peña Cultural Center has been able to provide the public with a unique opportunity to experience and participate in Afro-Cuban rumba.
Afro-Cuban rumba is a traditional music gathering that is empowering and healing. It brings singers, drummers and onlookers together in a creative process that produces musical, social, and spiritual harmony, while connecting us with the cultural heritage of Africa.
We´re very lucky to have access to this beautiful art form in Berkeley since it is rarely found outside of Cuba, and we´re grateful to La Peña Cultural Center for their continued collaboration and support in providing a physical space for the rumba for so long.
During these times of difficult economic changes that are drastically impacting sources of revenue, (especially for cultural art forms)., we too are being affected.
The rumba at La Peña is now in "drastic" need of your help to keep the music and culture alive. We are appealing to the community for support in raising an initial goal of $5,000.00.
This amount will support our efforts to continue to provide and showcase Afro-Cuban rumba and culture at La Peña Cultural Center, hosted by local maestros and volunteers and open to everyone.
It will allow us to repair and replace instruments when necessary, and it will enable us to continually offer the community a special assembly of local well-known, as well as world-renowned, Afro-Cuban rumberos.
This is a serious appeal, and without your financial support,
We will not be able to continue.
No donation is too large or too small and all is appreciated!
We thank you very kindly for your support, and we look forward to seeing you at the rumba at La Peña Cultural Center.
