Our 9-month-old cat, Sweet Pea, is currently fighting for her life.

We rescued her just 8 months ago after she and her brother were abandoned on the street. Since then, she’s become part of our family: loving, playful, and full of life.

Recently, we unknowingly exposed her to something dangerous while redecorating our bedroom. Our house was built between 1965–1975, we later discovered there may have been lead in the old paint beneath the surface.

A few days after the work, we noticed Sweet Pea wasn’t herself. She stopped eating properly and was struggling to urinate. We rushed her to the vets, and devastatingly, she was diagnosed with severe kidney failure.

She is now being treated at Animal Trust Barnsley with IV fluids and constant monitoring.

Update (24 hours in):

• She is now urinating well

• She is brighter and more alert

• She has even started to show interest in food again

These are all positive signs, but she is still critically ill and needs to remain under care.

Our situation:

We have already paid £719 for her first two days of treatment, but she will 100% need to stay longer to have a real chance of survival.

Unfortunately, we simply cannot afford the ongoing costs alongside our normal bills. Each extra day costs £360
