Save Straiton Community Hall!!

Hi all, my name is Samantha, and I am on the board of directors for Straiton Community Hall. The hall was hit quite hard due to the pandemic. The hall's only income is rentals, and with COVID, we could not rent out the hall for any events. Along with no income, the hall sat empty for nearly two years as we could not have any community events. Due to the furnace not staying lit the pipes for the plumbing froze and burst. We also require a new furnace. Unfortunately, the account for the hall does not have enough money to throw a fundraiser (what we would typically do to raise funds) to raise money for the plumbing to be redone and the furnace. If we could raise the $15,000.00 goal, we would have enough money to start the repairs AND throw a fundraiser to help get the hall "Bumpin" again.

Straiton Hall is like a second home to myself and many other board members. To give you an idea about the hall;

Straiton Community Hall was built by community volunteers starting in 1949 on land donated by Louis Dione. Prior to that date the club operated from homes and the one room Straiton School. The hall was officially opened during BC’s 1958 centennial celebrations with a beautiful hardwood floor reclaimed from lanes in a bowling alley. Through the years, the Straiton Recreation Commission that completed the hall, has continued to provide community recreational services through the Straiton Community Club.

Straiton Community Club is a registered British Columbia non-profit society and is operated by an elected board directed by general membership. We welcome volunteers.

Our continuing programs include:

Providing a rental venue to the community to pursue political, environmental and other current issues as well as for their family and other special occasions.

Community Barbecue
Easter Egg Hunt
Halloween
Christmas

We have been able to continue with our community events since the restrictions on gatherings has been lifted the hall, however, is barely holding on and without some significant upgrades and income, the hall may not be available to the community for much longer.
