Well done Stansted! We have raised £10,000 already through your overwhelming generosity but still need a further £10,000 to cover both the costs of a planning consultant and an expert landscape witness. These are crucial in our fight against the developer's appeal to build 168 houses off Pennington Lane in Stansted.
Much as we hate asking for money, we hope that many more people are able to make a contribution. We realise that it has been a tough 12 months financially for many people, but please send something you can afford!
The story so far:
We were delighted when UDC Planning issued a refusal notice in March to Bloor Homes regarding their application UTT/20/2021/OP. This refusal was quite damning and a testament to the 1500+ people who wrote in and objected, so many thanks for your help in this.
Sadly, but unsurprisingly, Bloor Homes appealed against UDC’s refusal immediately afterwards. Consequently the Appeal Inquiry will take place on 13th July for 5 working days. Save Stansted Village , partnered with Stansted Parish Council, have applied for and received ‘Rule 6’ Status. This allows us to be an active third party at the public inquiry, alongside UDC and against the developers, as we did before in 2013. This procedure is much like a court of law with the prosecution, defence and judge - and just as serious.
There are many documents to prepare beforehand such as our ‘Statement of Case’, followed by detailed ‘Proofs of Evidence’ which have to comprehensively present our arguments against the development. Work has begun already and we have some experience of this from the previous Taylor Wimpey Inquiry in 2013 but we are obviously not specialists in this field! Therefore it is essential that we provide expert witnesses in the form of planning and landscape consultants. Initial estimates indicate this will cost in the region of £20,000, maybe more. It’s worth noting that developers generally assign £500,000 to fund an appeal....so we know what we’re up against!
