SAVE OUR SCHOOL
St. Francis Borgia School – Chicago
We Need You Now More Than Ever
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read our plea.
On behalf of the parents at St. Francis Borgia School, I’m sharing this with a heavy heart and a hopeful spirit. St. Francis Borgia School is in real danger—and we need your help to SAVE OUR SCHOOL.
St. Francis Borgia has long been a cornerstone of a hardworking, blue-collar community—providing not only strong academics but a faith-centered environment that shapes future leaders. Our graduates regularly earn high school scholarships and perform exceptionally well due to the strong foundation built here. Academic results published by the State of Illinois consistently show the strength of SFB’s curriculum and student performance. Our students regularly achieve at or above grade level at rates far higher than many surrounding schools. These results speak to the dedication of our faculty, the involvement of our families, and the commitment of our students.
Two years ago, the Archdiocese of Chicago met with St. Francis Borgia to begin the search for a new principal. At that time, the school was coming out of the pandemic and, thanks to the incredible generosity of our families, raised several hundred thousand dollars to secure the school’s financial stability.
During that meeting, the Archdiocese assured us that the school was not in danger of closing, citing strong academic performance in Math, Reading, and faith formation.
Although fundraising fell slightly short of the goal in 2024, this was due partly to historically lower fundraising expectations and an unexpected ComEd-related AC replacement cost of $175,000—an unavoidable expense that was spread across two years. Last week, during a meeting with the Archdiocese, we were informed of a projected $120,000 deficit for this year. The Archdiocese also clarified that St. Francis Borgia should not have been advised to pursue long-term planning based on earlier financial assumptions. They apologized for the miscommunication. Due to this misunderstanding, they now require a $400,000 advance within the next two months to stabilize this year’s and next year’s budgets.
We are now at a point where every donation matters. Every share matters. Every prayer matters.
If we don’t act now, we risk losing a place that has shaped generations of students with faith, love, discipline, and community.
St. Francis Borgia isn’t just any school.
It’s where our children form lifelong friendships. It’s where teachers know every student by name. It’s where faith meets education, and where students feel safe, supported, and loved. The halls of Borgia are filled with memories—first days of school, Christmas plays, sports, graduations, and moments that families carry forever.
Losing this school would break the heart of our community.
