Hi my name is Perla and I am fundraising for my elderly father-in-law. Around 3 weeks ago, his life savings was stolen from his home. He had around $26,000. He currently has congestive heart failure with a functioning heart at 25% and is on dialysis. While we suspect one of his roommates was the culprit, when questioned they denied taken the money. We contacted the Redlands police department and they took my father-in-law’s statement and said they would send an officer the following day to get fingerprints off the bag where the money was placed. Instead, they called him back the next day and stated they would not would be coming. My family and I don’t understand why they did not bother to come interview the other roommates living in the home as well as fingerprint the cabinet where they money was, to see if one of their fingerprints matched so the roommates could be prosecuted or excluded from the suspect list.

The money my father-in-law had, was the residual funds from selling his home. He lost his home 3 years ago, due to him barely working as he was taking care of his daughter who had breast cancer. Unfortunately his daughter lost her battle with breast cancer at 27 years old, leaving 3 young children and he was never able to recover financially. In turn, he lost his home 2 years after she died. A home that he lived in for over 30 years and raised his kids and grandkids. We are currently in the process of trying to find my father-in-law new living arrangements as he will not be able to pay for his expenses next month, on just his social security check. It is truly sad to see a man who was a business owner for over 30 years who worked so hard his entire life have all his savings stolen right under his nose. It’s unconscionable that someone would steal from and elderly, sick person.

Due to his illnesses, he is no longer able to work. The money he had, was to help him live for the next few years, as well as help pay for his medical expenses. My family and I are reaching out to ask people to help meet his urgent, upcoming expenses as well as his medical needs as he only has one more month supply of his insulin.
