At the end of 2019, Sharlene Williams (Shar) owner of The Hitchin’ Post in Ahwahnee Ca, decided to give her family restaurant a facelift. It had only been 2 short years since the loss of her, husband/ business partner/ best friend. While he cheered her on from the clouds, Shar was honoring him by pouring her love into the Bar & grill that had given them so many great years. She had floors re-done, painted inside and out, re-did the stage, revamped the bar, upgraded the billiards room and more.

Just 3 months later, March 2020, the covid-19 Pandemic Shut her down. With the doors closed for most of Spring and Summer, 2020 took Shar and The Hitching Post on a rollercoaster ride. Partial openings began in the Fall and Shar continued to push forward. She had to build an outdoor patio and covered seating area to be able to continue operating.

The Holiday season of 2020 came with more complete shutdowns. This time for 3 weeks. On Dec. 27 with no funds but high spirits, Shar and her son Scotte returned to prep for re-opening but discovered a broken water pipe and her beloved restaurant flooded. She was left with no hope of re-opening.

Again, Shar began to pick up the pieces and rebuild. It was a new year and 2020 was behind her. Until February, when a record breaking, Mono Wind Event destroyed the outdoor seating area, sending the tent and chairs onto The Hitchin’ Post roof.

If that wasn’t enough…. The winds also took down a fence, dropped a few oaks, and damaged an outbuilding and water storage system at Shars home. She has more on her plate now than ever before.

She would never ask for assistance from anyone. Matter of fact, she regularly hosted fundraisers at The Hitching Post. Always making space available for group meetings and events. Some of the beneficiaries are H.O.W - Helping One Woman, Relay for Life, Caring Veterans of America, Christmas toy drives for kids with cancer, as well as for those in the community who just needed a hand, whether for community events, medical bills or memorials. In her words –

“We are a small community and all we have is each other to lean on. Without that we have nothing. I love my local family, and always want to do what I can to help.”

NOW ITS TIME WE HELP HER!

She estimates it costs around $10,000 per month, just to honor contracts and pay bills for The Hitching Post. This has been a particularly challenging time for Sharlene. Let rebuild our friend and her business.
