Save The Right Cut Barbershop

In the heart of every city, there is a place where father’s bond with sons, laughter and music fills the room, political debates are shared, The Michael vs. Lebron debate is never put to rest and people from all backgrounds come together without prejudice or judgment. This place is not fictional or magical, it is simply the power of the neighborhood barbershop. For Cary, North Carolina, the Right Cut Baber Shop is that very place, and so much more.

The Right Cut Barbershop is a staple that has been in the community since 1991. It serves as a place where everyone is welcome no matter race, gender, identity or status. Jesse Padilla-Alegria took ownership of The Right Cut about nine years ago and brought it vibrantly back to life with hard work, love and by using his overwhelming generosity to impact the community with events such as Cuts for Kids (a Back to School initiative that ensures the youth have necessary educational supplies and free haircuts for that first day of school). Jesse also bridged gaps and established rapport in controversial times by holding Rap Sessions which were open forums between local law enforcement and the public to help community policing efforts; and to help varying viewpoints come together and share ideas and information.

Whether it is a disaster relief fundraiser for Puerto Rico or a coat drive, Jesse has been there for the triangle for many years. He won the 2019 award for community outreach from the Humble Initiative and has deeply rooted his business as a support system for the community.

With the current challenges our economy faces due to COVID-19, The Right Cut has experienced unforeseen financial challenges that burden it so significantly that its doors may close for good. This unprecedented disease has proven to be an opponent we have little control over – but what we can control is how devastating an impact it has on our local businesses, culture and community.

As North Carolinians, we take pride in our home state and our small businesses are the heart and soul of our culture and unique identity. Please help Right Cut’s doors open as we begin to pick up the pieces and submerge back into our everyday lives. Jesse and the barbers at Right Cut have been a service to us for many years. So let’s stick together and be a service to them in this time, because “the greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members." – Coretta Scott King

Jesse describes barbering as “freedom of expression and the gift of making people feel good. It provides a strong sense of community when people from every background can come together and laugh, share stories and comradery. You gain a sense of self and belonging.” We may not be able to ever repay Jesse fully for all he has done, but together we can help his business survive so that The Right Cut may continue to keep the power of diversity and enrichment of culture alive in Cary.

All proceeds will go directly to owner Jesse Padilla-Alegria and allocated to expenses necessary for the sustainment of The Right Cut Barber Shop. It will help to not only keep the doors open once the ban is lifted, but will help with the retention of all the talented and amazing barbers there as well who are now out of work. Under penalty of law, barbers in North Carolina are not allowed to provide services anywhere – creating a severe impact on their personal livelihood.

We are a small percentage of the people who Jesse has impacted and wish to return the gifts he has given to so many others by showing up in times of need. We wholeheartedly thank each and every one of you for supporting the Right Cut Barber Shop and the amazing barbers.

Please stay healthy and safe.
