Stop Eminent Domain - Government Taking of Private Property!
Update - Unused funds will be donated to the Tivoli Waterfront Revitalization Plan.
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
We humbly ask you for your help.
The Red Hook Boat Club is fighting for survival. The Town Board is mounting an inappropriate land grab that smacks of gentrification, opportunism, government overreach, and blatant disregard for an entire group of people. They have demeaned our organization and our members and feel as though this working class group of local citizens should not own our property along the Hudson River.
The Town of Red Hook is attempting to steal our property through eminent domain - a rare and powerful legal action typically reserved for the rarest and most necessary circumstances. In this case, the Town proposes replacing our well-loved member-supported club with a so-called "public" version run by the government.
This move disregards the decades of volunteer effort, community spirit, and personal investments that have sustained the Boat Club for generations. It raises serious questions about fairness, transparency, and respect for private property. Furthermore this action deteriorates public trust in local government. An action of this magnitude is certain to leave a blemish on our community, businesses, and landowners forever.
Please join us in sharing this story and raising funds to stop government overreach.
