Why We’re Raising Funds
We live in Blythe, California, a small desert community whose only hospital—the 25-bed Palo Verde Hospital—faces closure after years of financial mismanagement. The next nearest emergency room is more than 100 miles away. If this hospital closes, our neighbors will lose lifesaving care.
Our Story
We are Elizabeth Bailey and Dayna Dutton, two registered nurses who care deeply about our hometown. Since October 2024, we have attended nearly every board meeting and watched funding collapse and leadership fail. During this time:
• Doctors have gone unpaid for three months.
• Sixteen staff members were laid off when the Med-Surg unit and the OR shut down.
• Accrued paid time off is no longer honored.
Despite reporting these issues to state and federal officials, including the Governor’s office and the Senate, no agency has stepped in.
Our Plan
Instead of waiting for outside help, we are taking action. We aim to purchase Palo Verde Hospital outright through donations with two local Registered Nurses sharing a huge vision. Our vision is to:
• Create an aggressive, streamlined business plan that cuts excessive administrative costs.
• Restore emergency and surgical services.
• Build strong relationships with local businesses and residents.
• Provide jobs and stability for medical professionals who want to serve Blythe.
Hospitals are almost always run by large corporations. We believe this community deserves better. The community deserves a hospital owned by the people it serves.
