Save Outdoor Music & Modern Performing Arts in Woodstock, NY
Donation protected
Immediate funds are needed for the performing artists, musicians and small businesses of Woodstock's Artist Community to retain legal counsel. The Town Board of 'Woodstock, A Colony for The Arts' is attempting to pass an anti-music sound ordinance as soon as May 13, 2025. The proposed law is specifically targeted at preventing the music, entertainment and contemporary performance art of the Woodstock Artist Community from being produced, demonstrated & performed outdoors in Woodstock's Hamlet Commercial Zone. As proposed, Local Law 1 for 2025 is an attack on the Right to Work of Artists, entertainers and workers of related trades who are attempting to operate as they traditionally have, in the Artist Colony's Commercial Zone. The proposal reverses over 55 years of established past practice in Woodstock's Commercial Zone and directly undermines the goals & dictates of Woodstock's 2018 Comprehensive Development Plan. Right now, members of Woodstock's Town Board are attempting to fast track this egregious and highly unpopular proposal, which contradicts the letter and spirit of our 2018 Comprehensive Plan. In response the Woodstock Artist Community, local small business owners, and the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce and Art have worked together with multiple stakeholders to craft a list of concerns, questions and educational materials about this law. They be found at this link. At this point we are in need of immediate funding for legal advice and representation. Please help defend the right of artists to assemble, perform, and earn a living in "New York's oldest continuously functioning Colony for the Arts." All funds will be used for attorney and court related filing fees for this effort. Thank You.
