SAVE OUR STREETS IN SHAW OLDHAM
Donation protected
We are raising funds to fight a planning application in our community.
St Paul's Church has been neglected in Shaw for many years. In recent years part of the building collapsed.
After the partial collapse the building and grounds were sold by The Methodist Church to a private buyer.
Mohammadia Masjid Oldham bought the property and grounds.
There was a specific clause to keep all the stones which had fallen and to eventually be rebuilt. All the stones were numbered, mapped and to be stored safely.
A large percent of these stones have since disappeared from the grounds.
The Masjid Shaw is in use and has been for over a year. There has been no change of use needed as this is a place of worship.
Previous planning applications stated the graves were to be concreted over and 12 parking spaces built on top.
Due to local public backlash, this has now been withdrawn.
New planning applications have now been posted, stating there will be a peace garden and graves will be saved.
The Church sits on the busiest junction in Shaw. The streets are small and there is not much parking for residents.
The current owners wish to open a previously closed gate for access to an existing car park which is full of the stones saved.
The access gate is no more than 20 feet from the very busy junction.
The traffic uptake if this planning is approved will be huge. The Masjid Shaw have stated they hope to eventually have 300-500 visitors. Where will all these visitors park? On local streets?
We need funds to fight this. We need legal advice, leaflets, meetings, all cost money.
Please help us keep our streets safe from huge amounts of traffic
