Save Our Stairs!

The stairs running from the parking lot in the Manresa Uplands State Park in southern Santa Cruz County to Manresa Beach on Monterey Bay were washed away by storms in 2016.  These stairs were built to provide the public ready access to the beach as determined by the California Coastal Commission.  The organizers of this fundraiser are residents of the Canon del Sol planned development located adjacent to the State Park who believe that restoration of these stairs will have a direct positive effect on the quality of life in southern Santa Cruz County as well as provide more immediate beach access to those in the area and visiting the park.   Efforts to get State Parks to undertake this restoration project have been unsuccessful.  State Parks has funds but not enough to cover all its projects.  As a result, it is a priority question and issue, and what remains is to convince State Parks to move the project up on its priority list.  For this, it is thought that an effort by someone with appropriate experience and contacts to advance our interest could be helpful.  An individual to undertake this effort has been located.  The cost is $5,000 up front and $10,000 upon successful completion of the task, i.e. State Parks actually undertaking and successfully completing the project. Accordingly, contributions from persons sharing the views of the organizers or otherwise interested in the restoration of the stairs are earnestly sought.  Any amount is and will be appreciated.  The first goal is the $5,000.  For purposes of this goal, the site will be closed on December 9, 2019. If $5,000 is not received by that date, all donations will be returned. If $5,000 or more is received by that date, $5,000 will be applied as indicated above and excess funds held in a bank account pending future development and the possible need for the expenditure of the $10,000.  The site will remain open for collection of any additional funds necessary to achieve the ultimate $15,000 goal.  Excess funds, if any, will be donated to State Parks. Donations are not tax deductible.
