Save Our Historic Four Mile Community Club

Have you ever been to one of those places and thought, wow, if these walls could talk?

Built in 1937, our Four Mile Community Club has stood the test of time. It has been bringing people together for over 75 years for weddings, funerals, polka parties, birthdays, and celebrations of every kind. This place has provided comfort and friendship for so many, and needs your help so it can continue into the future! Did you know this is one of the last community centers of its kind in all of Colorado? Help us secure the future of this community center!

Our clubhouse was built to support needs of the schoolhouse that is adjacent to it. In 1921, a group formed to help improve the services of the school. The PTA that formed was called the Four Mile Community Club. After fundraising for 15 years, there was finally enough money to build a facility. In 1937, the Clubhouse was built. With the kitchen added on a year later, this building was able to provide hot lunches, and a meeting place for school families.

The schoolhouse is located on what seems to be the same parcel, but it is owned by the School District RE-1. Due to land values reaching unprecedented highs, RE-1 is making a change and moving is preparing to sell the lot where the schoolhouse is located.

Why is this relevant? Through a recent court battle with RE-1 over various issues where our Club had some victories and some losses. We were granted our common easement an access to our building, but at the same time now need to relocate and individualize our utilities. This will also need to occur prior to demolition of the schoolhouse and construction on that parcel.

These are the reasons for this GoFundMe. The Club has researched relocation of the utilities, and of course it is very expensive. Labor costs, materials and permitting add up quickly. Without addressing the utilities issues, we cannot keep the doors to our Four Mile Community Club open. Our club has kept a small cushion for emergencies, but these costs far exceed our savings.

If you’ve ever hosted an event at the clubhouse, you know how special it can be. We offer amazing resources in the kitchen, dance floor, stage, tables, chairs, and anything else you can think of to provide comfort. We have always charged a reasonable fee, but have never been in it for profit. To keep our doors open, we are seeking donations to cover the costs for relocating the utilities. Should these services somehow cost less than expected, any overages in donations will be used to make improvements to the kitchen.

As a sidenote, we thank the generosity of our attorneys at Greenberg Traurig for their pro bono work to represent us in the lawsuit mentioned above.
