Save our HDFC co-op! Protect our seniors, and kids

***Update: thanks to your generosity, we now have enough money for a down payment on a new boiler. We are now asking for help with our installment payments to pay it off!***

Hi, my name is Rebecca and we are trying to save our HDFC building in NYC- but we need your help!!!

This is a lovely historic building in NY’s East Village located on 13th Street. As a new board has now been elected we have been faced with the reality that over many years of neglect, trying to keep maintenance fees low for our low-income, elderly and disabled residents, our building in grave financial distress and at risk of being taken over by the bank. As the new board members we are seeking the public’s help since many of our residents could end up on the street. We are hopeful that if you help us today whether through a donation or even sharing this post that we will be able to save our home and provide the residents of this building with updates like a working boiler, updated plumbing, a functioning intercom system, and other much needed basic necessities.

The cost breakdown is as follows: if we reach $20,000, we will be able to keep up with our installment payments on a new Boiler. This will save us $15,000 per year in oil! If we reach $30,000 we can replace our main drain pipe and stop calling the plumber every time it rains (would save us ~$8k per year). With these cost saving moves, we would finally have enough left over to sustain the mortgage and pay for smaller repairs.
