Save our green fields, stop Greenhead Solar Park!
Donation protected
Our Greenside Matters was set up by local concerned residents when Exagen first proposed a solar panel farm being built on the edge of Greenside, stretching from the corner of Kyo Lane, the length of Bucks Nook Lane across the fields down to Lead Road and over towards Chopwell. This is a 40 yr project so requires some careful consideration. We do not profess to be experts in any of this, but what we do have is passion for our little corner of Tyne and Wear.
Our concerns have always been and remain:
risk of fire
risk of flood
contamination of waterways if a fire did start
increased opportunities for organised crime in the area
damage to wildlife habitations
displacement of animals
loss of greenbelt land
increase in trucks and heavy plant machinery through the village,
damage and increased conjestion to our roads
property devaluation
To be clear we are not against renewable energy, we fully appriciate there is a need, but we *MUST* ensure that all of the above have been considered, that brownfield sites have been fully investigated as an alternative, that robust safety plans are in place should the worse happen and we do our utmost to protect our greenbelt land.
Our philosophy has always been "IS IT RIGHT TO FIX ONE GREEN ISSUE BY SPOILING OUR UNSPOILT GREEN SPACES?
This is our village, let's fight for it!
In July 2025 Gateshead Council approved the planning application but as the area is covered by the very special circumstances measures the application is now referred to the Secretary of State for consideration.
We are launching an appeal but in order to do this we need your help! Appeals cost money because we need legal advice and representatives so if you are able to make a donation towards this cause we are truly grateful.
