Built by the hands of our forefathers.
A testament to those who fought for a new life.
It is our heritage - yet it hangs by a thread.

WHAT IS HAPPENING?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For over 60 years, the Latvian Hall has been the cultural hub of the Brisbane Latvian community. It has been a symbol of tradition and is testimony to the unity and resilience that is a result of our complex history.
Now, it is in peril. Time has slowly taken its toll and we are faced with a heartbreaking decision. Let it succumb to the ravages of time, or act now to keep this iconic venue as a marker in our proud Latvian history.
We are appealing to our fellow Latvians and Australian friends to help us preserve our beloved Latviešu nams by donating now so that we might restore this treasured piece of heritage that stands in the heart of Brisbane.
WHY ALL THIS FOR A BUILDING?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is about having a place to connect. Somewhere to continue to preserve community, identity, and legacy. The tapestry of shared experience can be felt at the hall - the inspiration of learning, the fun of folk dancing, the melodies of Latvian songs, and a feeling of belonging.

It’s a place where stories are told and memories are made. Where the essence of the Latvian cultural identity is shared with all. Where the hearts of many communities and groups reside. It is a place to gather and celebrate cultures and beliefs, appreciate homegrown theatre and the arts, and learn new skills, and connect in a welcoming environment.

With your help, we can see into the future, by rejuvenating the spirit and soul of this historic building that has served us so well, and that continues to provide a home for so many.

OUR GOALS - RESTORATION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We desperately need to renovate and repair the hall so that we can ensure the continuity of revenue through venue hire. Recent events (such as COVID) saw a significant downturn in those revenues and we have reached a tipping point that makes it impossible to sustain such a venue without a more proactive approach to revenue raising.
While our end goal is to continue to provide a location for Latvians and other community groups to gather and connect, we simply cannot do this without some immediate help.
OUR GOALS - RENOVATION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once we have restored the venue to a level that allows us to be viable, we are then seeking upgrades to some facilities, introducing new features that will allow the venue to be more appealing for even greater revenue sources.

This, combined with renewed efforts that drive strategies designed to re-engage the local community will ensure the longevity of the building, the community and our heritage for many years to come.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Any donations, big or small
  • Assistance with restoration & renovations
  • Share this page, our plight and our cause
  • Word of mouth - tell everyone!
We are not asking everyone to donate money.
We're asking you to embrace this unique opportunity to make a difference, however you can. Whether this is financial, by way of a small donation, or spiritual, by simply sharing this link.
Your support will help breathe life into our cultural legacy, ensuring that future generations can appreciate this beautiful community space and that special experiences created within its walls.
