Save Our Ancestral Land in Nepal

Namaste. My name is Kedar Gandhari. I come from the Gandharba community of Nepal—an Indigenous group known for passing on news, healing, and stories through music. For generations, our people traveled from village to village, sharing songs and messages with a traditional instrument called the sarangi.

We were once deeply respected for our music, plant knowledge, and spiritual traditions. But over time, as technology replaced oral culture, our role in society began to fade. We were pushed to the margins—labeled untouchable and excluded from basic public spaces like temples, schools, and water sources.

Now, our culture is on the verge of disappearing.
Only around 6,000 Gandharbas remain, and the knowledge carried by our elders is quickly being lost.

Why We're Fundraising
I’m a music therapist who has committed my life to keeping our traditions alive. Together with my community, I’ve started building a vision on my families ancestral land:
The Liglig Kot Heritage Farmhouse is a small cultural and ecological center on our ancestral land in western Nepal.

This project will help:
* Revive Gandharba music and healing practices
* Create economic opportunities for women through crafts and music
* Offer youth education in ecology, entrepreneurship, and cultural heritage
* Grow sustainable food through agroforestry
* Host visitors for cultural exchange and healing retreats

But the land we’re building on is at risk.

After the last major earthquake, my family home was destroyed. Since then, I have been renting two small huts on our ancestral land to shelter my parents and continue the work.
Now, due to financial hardship and poverty, my uncle is being pressured to sell the land to developers. If this happens, my family will be displaced again—and we will lose the physical connection to our roots.

What We Need
We’re raising $150,000 USD to:
* Re-purchase and secure our ancestral land
* Build the Heritage Farmhouse and cultural center
* Support youth training, women’s cooperatives, music education, and land restoration work

Why This Matters
This isn’t just about one family or one project. It’s about preserving an entire cultural lineage—one that carries healing, wisdom, and history.

If this land is lost, so is a vital link to Nepal’s musical and spiritual heritage.

Special Note:
This GoFundMe is being organized by Tatiana Speed and Danny Grewal on behalf of Kedar and Punjan Gandhari.

Because Nepal is not supported by GoFundMe’s banking system, funds will be transferred to Danny at the end of the campaign, and he will then securely wire the full amount to Kedar and Punjan in Nepal.

If you have any questions about this process, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
