Over the past couple of years, our family has been facing many financial struggles. Since the end of a painful, costly, and mentally draining divorce, our mother agreed to assume all debt associated with the family house in order to keep myself, my sister, and our grandfather (our mother’s father-in-law), from being uprooted and potentially homeless. Our grandfather, who’s condition has been declining, is currently on hospice, and my mother has selflessly been his caregiver along with everything else she has faced.
Much of the debt she solely inherited is from the utilities and mortgage payments, which accumulated during the divorce- totaling over $30,000. Electricity and gas are scheduled to be shut off these coming weeks, and our house, which has been a home to many for the last 17 years, is now in jeopardy.
My sister and I do not have the significant means to drastically change our mother’s situation, which is why, we decided to reach out to those who might have been impacted or influenced by our mother’s generosity or kindness, and have had the pleasure of experiencing our home away from home, Nappiland.
Thank you for taking the time and consideration to read our story. We hope you can lend a helping hand to a family in need because we all know it takes a village.
