Emergency Update: Hurricane Melissa Has Destroyed My Aunt’s Home
Hurricane Melissa destroyed my Aunt Charmaine’s house in Westmoreland, Jamaica. The roof is completely gone. She’s exposed to the rain, bugs, and the mosquitoes.
I haven’t been able to talk to her since the storm. Communication is down, and the few relatives I’ve spoken to are barely giving me any information. All I’ve been told is that the roof is gone, she’s refusing to leave the house, and she’s now sleeping under a makeshift hut, trying to survive with whatever she could find to cover herself.
Her house was already falling apart before this storm. Now it’s destroyed.
I’m trying to raise money to:
• Go to Jamaica and make sure she’s safe
• Bring emergency supplies — food, water, medicine, and materials
• Start fixing the roof and rebuilding so she has a real place to sleep again
She’s alone, scared, and living in unsafe conditions. I can’t just sit here and do nothing. Anything you can give will help me reach her faster and start rebuilding her home.
About Aunt Charmaine
My aunt is 63 years old and lives alone in a house that’s been falling apart for years. She is a vulnerable person who has suffered from mental illness her entire life. The roof was infested with termites and leaking, the walls were cracked, and stray cats took over her home. She’s been living in darkness, without a fridge, with a leaking roof, with bugs and stray cats.
But she wasn’t always like this. When I was a kid, she was the one who combed my hair, made sure I had dinner, washed my clothes, and tucked me in at night. She was gentle, loving, and patient, the kind of person who quietly took care of everyone around her.
After my grandparents died, everything changed. She struggled mentally and physically, and with no one left to care for her, her home slowly fell apart. People in the community call her crazy, but they don’t know what she’s been through.
Now, after this hurricane, she has nothing. No roof. No protection. No safety.
Why I am Asking For Help
I don’t have the resources to handle this on my own. I’m doing everything I can, raising funds, planning to travel, and preparing to bring supplies to rebuild what’s left.
Your donation will help me:
• Reach her safely and confirm she’s okay
• Provide emergency relief right away
• Start rebuilding her roof and home
Please share this page, donate what you can, and help me get to her before things get worse.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping me do something for the woman who once did everything for me.
