Help Save the Roof of Historic McPike Mansion
For more than 160 years, McPike Mansion has stood on the hill overlooking Alton, Illinois. It has survived abandonment, vandalism, theft, and decades of neglect.
In recent years, a small group of passionate volunteers has been working to restore and protect this historic landmark so it can continue telling its story.
But right now, we’re facing a problem we can’t ignore.
The roof needs repair. Now.
Water is beginning to get in, and every storm risks damage to the structure and the work that has already been done. Historic buildings don’t get second chances once water damage starts.
We’ve already begun raising funds through PayPal and the incredible support of our followers, but the need is larger than what we’ve raised so far.
So we’re opening this GoFundMe to help us finish the job.
Where the money goes
All donations will go directly toward:
Emergency roof repair and stabilization
Materials needed to prevent further water damage
Protecting the structure so restoration can continue
Why it matters
McPike Mansion isn’t just another old house.
It’s part of Alton’s history.
It’s part of the stories people have followed for years.
And it’s a place thousands of visitors have walked through, explored, and supported.
If this place has ever fascinated you, if you’ve ever taken a tour, followed the restoration, or simply love seeing historic places survive — this is the moment it needs help.
Even small donations matter. Truly.
And if donating isn’t possible right now, sharing the campaign helps more than you know.
Thank you for helping keep McPike standing.
