Dear Compassionate Souls,
This isn't just my story, Mahmoud's story, or our family's story. This is the story of a tiny, innocent life growing within me, Marah, a life now facing unimaginable perils in Gaza. Just months ago, Mahmoud and I were brimming with joyous anticipation. Our engagement on October 6, 2023, marked the dawn of a beautiful future. Mahmoud, with years of relentless dedication, had built a thriving software company from the ground up, providing for us the dream of a fully furnished home—our sanctuary, where we pictured our family blossoming. We were planning our wedding, eager to build a life filled with laughter and security.
But our dreams, our home, and our sense of safety were brutally snatched away on October 7th.
Since that day, our reality has been a relentless nightmare. We are now homeless, perpetually displaced with our family of 9, desperately fleeing death's shadow. We have been forced to abandon everything more than 15 times, constantly escaping the terror that finds us wherever we seek refuge. Our days are spent surviving in a fragile, overcrowded tent that offers no dignity, no warmth, and no escape from the relentless fear that is our constant companion.
And now, the stakes are immeasurably higher: I, Marah, am pregnant.
My body, meant to nurture and protect this precious new life, is struggling. In Gaza, where every day is a battle against famine, finding even the most basic nourishment is an agonizing challenge. The constant displacement, the acute shortage of clean water, and the severe scarcity of food are not just hardships; they are a direct, terrifying threat to the health and survival of our unborn child and myself. Every agonizing moment is a desperate plea for sustenance, a silent prayer that my baby receives just enough to grow. The future of this tiny heart, and my own well-being, depend entirely on access to adequate nutrition and safety, luxuries that are impossible to find in this war-torn land.
We are not just a family seeking refuge; we are a mother carrying precious life, desperately seeking an escape from a humanitarian catastrophe. We must evacuate. We must reach a place where this child can be born into safety, nourished and protected, away from the constant rumble of fear and the gnawing pangs of hunger.
This is why we, Mahmoud and Marah, humbly appeal to your generosity through this urgent GoFundMe campaign, seeking €20,000 to facilitate our evacuation to Egypt, and ultimately, a chance at life and a future for our growing family in Germany.
Here's how your invaluable support will be meticulously used:
€2,000: To cover the immediate, critical basic needs for Mahmoud and me in Egypt upon evacuation, including housing, vital food, and other necessities, especially crucial for my health as a pregnant woman (equivalent to approximately €1,000 per month for two months).
€12,000: To secure essential exit permits from Gaza and cover the exorbitant, life-saving fees at the Rafah crossing for both Mahmoud and me (€6,000 per person). This is the most significant and immediate barrier to our escape.
€4,000: For our travel costs from Cairo, Egypt, to Germany.
€5,000: To cover visa applications and all associated administrative costs for our entry into Germany (€2,500 per person).
€1,349: To cover GoFundMe transaction fees (2.9% + $0.30 per donation), ensuring transparency.
Every single donation, no matter how small, is a beacon of hope. It's a direct lifeline for a pregnant mother, her husband, and their unborn child, struggling for basic survival amidst unimaginable devastation.
We appeal to you today, not just for ourselves, but for the sake of the innocent life we carry, for the chance to give this child a beginning free from fear and hunger. Your contribution can literally mean the difference between despair and the chance to rebuild a life, to secure a home that protects us, and to reclaim a semblance of the security we have so brutally lost.
With your profound support, we can begin to nurture this new life in safety, build a future filled with hope, and, God willing, one day tell our child how humanity reached out and saved us from the brink.
