On May 20,2020 the 48 tenants who held a business at Los Amigos Mall located on Maple and Jefferson received a 30 day notice to vacate their units.
Los Amigos Mall / Swapmeet was established in 1990. The Swapmeet has been a shopping center and a community space for over 20 years to the South Central Los Angeles Community. Every Sunday singers and performers build a friendly cultural atmosphere for folks to come out with their family and enjoy delicious Latin food, shop at more than 30 small business units, and dance to Spanish music.
Unfortunately, due to COVID 19 stay at home orders, the Swapmeet has to close its doors to the public for three months (March 2020 to June 2020). Most of the tenants leasing the unit are struggling to pay for the three months worth of rent and in retaliation the landlord has stated they will be closing the Swapmeet permanently.
The South Central Local of the LA Tenants Union is assisting the tenants in raising funds to help cover their organizing efforts to save Los Amigos Mall from closing. We appreciate any amount you can contribute to the funds.
