Important February 2020 update
As some of you know, the Howard County Planning Board issued the shocking final decision order approving 17 cookie cutter homes in the middle of the Lawyers Hill Historic District. A coalition of community, historical preservation and environmental organizations joined neighbors and others offering testimony in opposition to the scope of this proposed development. Every member of the Howard County Historic Preservation Commission strongly opposed the plan as presented and offered thoughtful comments for the Planning Board's consideration. The final decision in favor of the applicant was extremely disappointing and threatens the very core of our historic neighborhood and our fragile environment.
There is also much to lose financially and in our collective rights to peaceful lives in our neighborhood. Our coalition remains committed to protecting the community’s precious historic and environmental resources.
For these reasons, we have retained legal counsel with significant environmental experience and have filed the appeal and have ordered the full transcript of all of the hearings to utilize in the development of the legal arguments for the appeal. We are optimistic that we can be successful if we persist.
Of course, this effort requires your financial support. Once again, we are asking you and others who care about these things to help with the defense of this historic treasure. Your financial support will be deeply appreciated now and by those who follow us here. Please be as generous as you can.
Thank you for listening and for your support!
