Save KDHX lawyer fees

I'm Drea Stein, former host for 25 years of the Other One on KDHX FM88, community radio station in St. Louis, MO. On Tuesday, August 29, 2023 I was told that my services were no longer needed as a volunteer at KDHX after 28 years of volunteering, 25 of those years on the airwaves. I was told that my public criticisms were considered to be attempts to defund KDHX.

I was speaking publicly because station management and the board of directors refuse to meet with the volunteers to discus and find resolution to our difference of opinions. Myself, and many of the other volunteers, are not happy with actions taken within the last few years that have removed our community radio station from any involvement with the community that financially supports our community radio station. This is not the direction that KDHX was founded on. KDHX is a COMMUNITY radio station. KDHX needs to be physically involved with the community in order to gain their support, not continuously running on air announcements asking for donations.

Volunteers are what built KDHX. Volunteers of all types need to be welcomed into the daily workings of our community radio station, not treated as support for the staff. The staff needs to be supporting the volunteers that make the on air content and making KDHX part of the community.

There are many other things that management have done that have betrayed the trust of the community by changing the bylaws improperly and then not living up to the changes that they made in those bylaws. How can you be a community radio station if all power is placed in one person's hands?

Sadly, I have filed a lawsuit regarding my illegal dismissal. I have a great lawyer who is doing most of this work pro bono but there will still be legal fees. I will need funds to pay for part of the legal fees.

Any excess funds not spent on my legal fees will be donated to pursue other legal action down the road.

Together us volunteers, listeners and financial supporters built KDHX. It will take all of us coming together to regain control of our community radio station.
