Please help Houlden Farm's Sunflower Shanty
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Lori Houlden GIrard and I'm asking for your help to secure the future of my family's farm.
Last year my nephew's opened the Sunflower Shanty , consisting of a beer garden, live music, and a food truck. As well as a play ground and petting zoo for the littles.
The Shanty quickly became a popular place for friends and families to gather outside and enjoy the weekends during the summer. However, the Shanty and the future of the farm is in jeopardy as leagal bills are mounting.
This Spring there was a complaint made to the Grafton Select Board regarding the noise level of the music coming from the Shanty and the frequency of said live music.
My family attended the meetings, heard the concerns and tried comprising with the neighbors by taking measures to mitagate the sound and shorten hours. However, this was not enough for those unhappy with the Shanty. A call was made to the ABCC to complain about the one day beer and wine license issued for the 2022 season.
That call has ultimately forced my nephews to close the Shanty many weekends this summer causing them lost revenue and having to lay of employees that counted on the Shanty for income.
These kids (seeing I'm their aunt, they'll always be kids to me) are trying to raise families and in this economy they can't survive by selling fruits and vegetables alone. Which is one of the reason the Sunflower Shanty was created. To help assure we have fresh fruit, vegetables, and open space for generations to come. I for one am thankful for their love of the farm life and
hope with your help they are able to keep my Grandfather's but most importantly my Mom's dream alive.
If more funds are raised than needed the excess will be donated to the
Grafton Food Bank. Thank you❤️
