Demolition is due for 13847 Woodward this year, and that means the iconic "Highland Appliance" sign will be coming down with it. This sign has been serving as an unofficial marker that you are in the heart of Highland Park.

The City of Highland Park has such a rich history, and a proud identity (separate but very much connected to Detroit) and by working together we can protect the landmarks that still remain. So let's preserve this little piece of history together.

The long-term vision is to restore the sign, either partially or fully, and convert it into a sign that spells out “Highland Park” at a new location within city limits. (Ideally, "Park" would be in the same font, or use an "A" & "P" from Appliance and create an "R" & "K"). Once the sign is secured, if necessary, I will work to pursue additional funding through community partnerships, sponsorships, or grant opportunities if the restoration/re-installation costs happen to be more than anticipated.

While donating the sign to a museum is a backup option, the priority is to keep it local and accessible to the people who call Highland Park home.

If there are any left over funds then they will go towards the preservation/rehab/beautification of MLK Park @ Richton & Lincoln St. in Highland Park (Michigan)!

If we don't successfully save the sign, then funds will be re-allocated to the Highland Parks Park & Recreation Department to help with the various parks around Highland Park (MLK, Massachusetts, Storen, etc.)
